On the occasion of World Flamenco Day, Ljubljana welcomes one of the great masters of modern day flamenco – La Lupi.
Susana Lupiañez Pinto – La Lupi is an outstanding flamenco dancer whose artistry, charisma, and exceptional mastery have established her as one of the leading authorities in flamenco today. Her artistic career is built on profound knowledge, dedication, and an uncompromising commitment to authentic flamenco expression. She performs at prestigious festivals and theatres around the world and is also highly regarded as a choreographer. For the Ballet Nacional de España, she created La fonda de Carmencita for the production Zaguán.
She will be joined by guitarist Curro de María and singer Salva Cortés.
Major awards and distinctions
- 2007 – First Prize for Baile Libre at the National Flamenco Competition of Peña La Perla de Cádiz for her performance of seguiriyas.
- 2007 – Second Prize for alegrías at the National Flamenco Competition Alegrías de la Peña La Perla de Cádiz.
- 2016 – Nominated for Best Female Dancer at Spain's Premios Max for the production Cartas a Pastora.
- 2022 – Received the Chicago Tribune Award for Best Choreography for a work created for Ensemble Español.
With her own company, Compañía Flamenca La Lupi, she creates, choreographs, and performs at some of the world's most important national and international theatres and flamenco festivals. Her most acclaimed productions include Lenguaje Oculto, RETOrno, Cartas a Pastora, Mudanza, La Paula, and Épicus.
This concert is part of the Espacio Flamenco concert series, supported by the Embassy of the Kingdom of Spain in Ljubljana and the City of Ljubljana.
