You are warmly invited to the exhibition opening on Thursday, 22 October at 7 pm at Galerija Internacionala, on the upper floor of the Španski Borci Cultural Centre.
POPKOVINA is an artist collective whose six members share a longstanding friendship, common values and an educational background at the School of Design and Photography, from which they graduated in 1984. Their practice is rooted in collective creation, the exchange of experiences and open dialogue, bringing together expertise in visual art, graphic design, fashion design, costume design, exhibition design and music.
They combine natural, synthetic and discarded materials, exploring their expressive potential through a range of techniques. Working with wood, fabric, polystyrene, PVC and metal, they create installations while also developing their practice through woodcuts and other printmaking techniques. Discarded materials and objects acquire new meanings in their work, raising questions about time, consumption, transformation and the circulation of materials.
The collective’s work is shaped by a critical engagement with contemporary society. Through materials, forms and politically charged titles, they express their experiences and convictions, responding to greed, abuses of power, social apathy and the erosion of shared values. Working together also offers them a space for connection, mutual support and a break from everyday routines.
The collective comprises Anita Indihar Dimic, who holds a master’s degree in printmaking and painting; graphic designers Polona Mesec and Darja Šipec; fashion designer, stylist and costume designer Elizabeta Zubčič; graphic and exhibition designer Mateja Goršič; and professional musician Blaž Grm, who also works in graphic design.
