The festival of dance creativity ŽIVA offers a programme of dance miniatures and performances by selected dance groups and individuals from all over Slovenia, as well as guests from abroad.
The name of the festival is a kind of homage to Živa Kraigher, dance pedagogue, choreographer and long-time head of the Department of Expressive Dance at the SGBŠ in Ljubljana. Over the three festival days, 540 dancers and their invaluable dance teachers, choreographers, and mentors will present themselves.
The aim of this year’s festival is to encourage dialogue between generations, different environments and modes of expression. The festival invites us to play, experiment, connect and explore non-hierarchical structures. All festival participants and guests are invited to step beyond the boundaries of the familiar and immerse themselves in a more intimate, unhurried, fluid and boundless dimension — one that opens the door to encounters with the new and to collective co-creation, free from stress, judgement and competition.
At the heart of the festival is dance in all its diversity of forms and expressions. The focus is on sharing different approaches to dance and celebrating the creativity and energy of dance, as well as the desire and unique perspectives on the world and dance that each of us brings.
